Rihanna e nata il 20 febbraio 1988 a Saint Michael, nell'isola di Barbados, coltivando la sua passione per il canto e vincendo già da ragazzina alcuni premi, seguendo le influenze di Alicia Keys e Beyoncè Knowels per perfezionare il suo stile forma una band musicale con alcune compagne di classe, a scuola. All'età di 15 anni, una sua amica le presenta Evan Rogers, un importante produttore musicale già scopritore di altri talenti come Christina Aguilera, che in quel periodo stava trascorrendo le vacanze nella località natìa della giovane Rihanna. Egli la aiutò, insieme al suo partner lavorativo Carl Sturken, a registrare del materiale negli USA e si impegnò a mandare le registrazioni per far conoscere la ragazza. Una di queste fu inviata a Jay-z, che l'ha segnalata alla Def jam records. L'album di debutto di Rihanna intitolato Music of the sun è stato pubblicato il 30 Agosto 2005Il primo singolo estratto fu Pon de replay che, pubblicato l' 11 Ottobre dello stesso anno, riscosse un notevole successo nelle classifiche di tutto il mondo ottenendo ottime posizioni e airplay nelle stazioni radio e televisione. Anche la rivista musicale Rolling Stones ha elogiato il brano, pur stroncando l'intero album, assegnandogli 2 stelle e mezzo su 5 totali e considerandolo troppo elementare nel suo genere. A dispetto di questa recensione, però,l'album riscosse un buon successo vendendo svariate copie in tutto il pianeta. Per rafforzare la promozione dell'album, inoltre, Rihanna seguì il tour di Gwen Stefani esibendosi all'apertura dei suoi concerti. Solo in seguito fu realizzato il secondo singolo, If it's lovin' that you want, che però ebbe decisamente meno successo del primo estratto. Un terzo singolo, Let Me, fu estratto solo in Giappone e ottenne un buon successo, arrivando alla numero 8 della classifica dei singoli locale.
Inoltre verso il 2008 Rihanna ha sfoggiato un nuovo look che ha influenzato molte sue fan. (nella foto)
